Why You Need To Use A DHCP Filter

Updated: Feb 13

Many readers have asked for more ‘real life’ examples of using tools and more specifically, tips and tricks I use when troubleshooting or baselining.

I decided to start a series of videos covering exactly that. In this one, I cover why and when I use DHCP display filters.

Regardless of the scope of any engagement, I take 5 minutes to capture some hdp packets while performing a simple ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew command. In many cases, I just file the trace files and keep them for future reference.  In about 30% of the cases, I find stuff to clean up or evidence that explains or contributes to the issue at hand.
