802.11n performance problem

I remember when duplex mismatches were was a big performance issue

Then having a bunch of protocols bound to your apps or clients was equally annoying.

When it comes to wireless many auto or default settings can be equally concerning.

In this specific example my client just cracked open a bunch of new laptops and was excited to see how much better their performance would be since they already had a 802.11n WiFi network.

Unfortunately they performance wasn’t much better and wanted me to help figure out why while I was there doing some other work.

Luckily I figured it out why fairly quickly. It seems that their new laptops where set to 802.11g as a default. Simply changing this back to 802.11n fixed the issue and doubled their throughput.
